How to Dress Sustainably – While Also Looking Effortlessly Cool

The fashion world is seeing a wave of brands that are employing sustainable supply chain practices while also making an effort to be chic and tailored. Long gone are the days when our eco-friendly clothing was shapeless and all one (very bland) color. Even some of the biggest names in fashion are revolutionizing their practices to be ethical and meet sustainability standards, and we love to see it.

Speaking of, let’s take a look at a few of our favorite sustainable brands we’re loving right now.

For Days

On-trend and totally zero-waste clothing? Sign us up! The Donnas editors fell absolutely in love with this brand after seeing their cozy basics on Instagram. Their pieces are thick and long-lasting made with 100% organic cotton and a mid-weight feel that holds up in any wash. Did we mention you can send back your items when you’re ready to give it away, and For Days will send you a credit to buy new pieces? Talk about full-loop sustainability.

VETTA

From where we’re standing, VETTA is a genius creation. This sustainable brand creates hand-picked and curated capsule wardrobes for literally every style. Though the prices are a bit higher, each piece is typically a 3-in-1, so you get more bang for your buck! Whether you want something a bit more edgy, timeless, or lounge-based, this brand has done it all for you. Don’t want an entire capsule? Just buy each piece individually! Their sustainability practices are top-notch, with just four factories in NYC, L.A., and Mumbai – all fair-trade and dedicated to caring for garment workers and meeting strict standards. They also use deadstock and 100% recycled materials in their packaging. So, this is love…

Aritzia

Our love for Aritzia grows with each passing year. This Canadian-based brand continues to improve their sustainability practices and has ambitious goals for the future including having 100% recycled e-commerce packaging by the end of 2021. They convert their old textiles into alternative materials – such as car-seat stuffing or building insulation – in partnership with a Vancouver company called de.brand. And they use sustainably sourced materials such as TENCEL™ in many of their entire brand lines, such as Wilfred Free. Plus, everything they have is incredibly on-trend and always in style with the Gen-Z’ers. We’ll take one of everything, please.

Known Supply

Featured in Forbes and Who What Wear, this brand has a clear and noble purpose: to empower underrepresented communities through meaningful work and sustainable clothing. We just cannot get enough of this mission – and their timeless apparel. Beautifully made with 100% natural materials and longevity in mind, Known Supply hits the mark on being chic, inclusive, and affordable. (Brb, we’re going to buy these adorable overalls!)

Girlfriend Collective

By now, you should know the one to beat in sustainable, affordable, and ultra-soft leggings goes to Girlfriend Collective. Available in a variety of sizes and always-cool colors, these leggings and lounge pieces are made from recycled water bottles into Girlfriend’s proprietary FLOAT fabric – who would’ve known they could be so comfortable? Give them a try, and let us know if you buy them in five different colors like we did (oops!).
